What to do in Stryn when you are wet
ImageThe view from within a cloud is rather wet and grey, and it gets old real quick. Having driven from Oslo with the initial plan of walking up Skåla and hopefully some other stuff we were pretty disappointed by the weather; heavy grey clouds making us all wet and soggy. We haven’t really been able to see much of the mountains above 1000-1100metres either, which is kinda sad but at least means that it’s snowing up higher.

Getting out of the sleeping bag in dry weather we started out hoping for a day of touring; but after breakfast and general messing around the clouds closed in and the rain came back. We debated for all of 4 seconds whether to hide in the tent or pack up and jump in the car. Car it was. Curiosity brought us up to Folven to have a look at the camping, now owned by Stryn Summerski. Noone around as expected; but it all looked as usual (i.e. pretty beat after a winter of harsh weather but cool in the usual disorganized Folven way). After a quick stop at Statoil / Buda for a Kaffeavtalen refill we drove up and found the ski centre road blocked by snow just where it turns off from the main road. Cool, as in pretty sad that we couldn’t get any higher but good for the summer season.

The tunnel below the tunnel couloirs

Up through the tunnels towards the closed Geiranger road in order to have a look at the Tunnelrenna / Tunnel couloir lines. Or so we hoped. It turned out we couldn’t see much due to driving snow and clouds, which also meant that even though it wasn’t raining the conditions where not too good for touring, walking blind just isn’t all that inviting. Instead we headed back down towards Stryn, making the stop at the dragon well next to the river.

In Stryn we went on a wlan mission; wireless internet is a blessing that allows even living-in-a-tent skiers like us to contact the world. And update websites. And stuff.

I am a nerd. And it's raining outside.

Glenn is a nerd too...

Between internet sessions, battery recharging, weather report checking and coffee sessions the day is pretty much about to end. Time to go and look for a dry(ish) place to pitch the tent.
